Does online simulation work with the Epson robot communication driver? I am working on an HMI project to interface to a T3 robot (no PLC) for basic status readouts. I was able to pull a 2108X2 from another project to test with and got everything working on actual hardware. That HMI had to go back to its original project though, and I was hoping to be able to keep working on this project and doing an online simulation to the robot for testing. When I try the online simulation though I always get a PLC no connection error.

Hi Joshua,

My sincere apologies for the delay, we will need to reach out to the development team for this information. I will provide an answer as soon as I receive a response.

Note: When possible we always recommend testing communication using an actual HMI and the physical (non-emulated) device.

Hi Joshua,

The development team has confirmed that this driver should support online simulation. If you are still unable to connect to the robot, can you please advise the following so that we can help you diagnose the issue:

  • Can you ping the robot from your PC?

  • If you create a simple project that contains only one numeric object or bit lamp addressed to a valid status register can the online simulation communicate with the robot?

  • What is the value of the communication error code for this device?

To find the communication error code, please perform the following:

  1. Select the “Home” tab and locate the “Local device” id within the “Device” tab of the “System parameters”:
Note: The device id of the “Epson Robot Controller” in this example is device ‘4’.

  2. Select the “Project” tab and click “Address”:

  3. Ensure “System tags” is selected and search for “Device #”:

  4. Find the register associated with the “error code for device #” tag.

  5. Create a numeric object addressed to this register to view the communication error code and run an online simulation.

Thank you. Not sure what I did differently, but after creating a new project today I was able to get it communicating via the online simulation.

I’m glad that the issue is resolved, please let us know if you have any additional questions.
