HMI does not respond to touch input due to incorrect grounding

HMI does not respond to touch input due to incorrect grounding
none 0.0 0

Customer has (2) CMT-3162X units on separate machines. Stating that the touchscreen does not accept a touch unless operator is physically touching the machine. Confirmed that the FG terminal is connected to ground.

Hi Gerweck,

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this issue.

To help us better understand the situation, could you please specify which I/O ports are currently in use on the HMI (e.g., LAN, USB, COM ports, etc.)?

Additionally, please try disconnecting the FG temporarily and test whether the touchscreen functionality improves without it.

Thank you

Customer is going to try disconnecting FG to see what happens. They are connected to a unmanaged switch via LAN1 (PLC connection). LAN2 and USB ports are connected to a GRACEPORT panel access device. No connection on COM port.
Also having them check voltages between 0V and GND. They stated they tie their power supply 0V to ground, but will measure.

Thank you for the update.

It’s possible that the USB connection may be introducing interference leading to the touch screen issue. Could you please provide the USB part number of the device connected through the GracePort? This will help us verify compatibility with the cMT3162X.

Additionally, as a next step, please try disconnecting the USB cable from the HMI and observe whether the issue still occurs with the touchscreen.

Thank you

Thank you for your prompt replies. The customer called back and informed us that they had a ‘compromised’ ground from their machine to Earth ground. They have corrected and everything is working as it should.

Many thanks!
