Screen navigation freezing when VFD runs

Screen navigation freezing when VFD runs

I have a new installation and noticed that whenever the VFD is running the HMI screen becomes difficult to operate…it basically freezes up. I have ensured that no comms cables are near high voltage, but would that have anything to do with screen navigation? The VFD is about 6ft away from the HMI. I replaced the HMI with another new one, but no help. Thanks

Some additional info: while the drive is running it doesn’t respond to skin touch contact but it will respond to a stylus. When the drive shuts off everything seems to go back to normal. We are using our standard Danfoss drive, but the HMI seems to be a newer version then what we typically use. I tried two new HMIs but both respond the same.

Hi @ProcessControl ,

Based on the behavior you described, it sounds like the HMI may be experiencing electrical interference from the VFD.

One symptom of VFD interference is that the HMI can become slow to respond or appear frozen while the drive is operating. The touchscreen responsiveness issue also suggests that electrical noise may be affecting the touch sensing.

We recommend verifying that the HMI’s FG is properly grounded and that the HMI’s power supply is independent from other devices whenever possible. Using a dedicated power source can help reduce conducted noise.
